In the summertime, there may be a few reasons why you might quickly need to get your hair off your neck: it could start raining, it could be scorching hot or the humidity can disrespect your hard earned twistout. No matter what’s driving you to dig through your purse for a few spare bobby pins, here are a few hairstyle tutorials to rely on when you’re in a bind and it’s too hot to think of anything else.

Half Fro Hawk

Half commit to a mohawk with this easy look that works for all hair lengths. Pin in an X formation to get maximum holding power with the least number of bobby pins.

Hump/Bump

This used to be my jam when my hair was shorter. Aisha uses more than 5 bobby pins in her tutorial, but you can avoid doing so by two strand twisting only the ends of the middle pomp section and then pin it down.

Faux Puff

Ditch the tight headband and bring all your hair forward just using bobby pins! Using a long bobby pin in the back section can keep this look right at 5 bobby pins, and it’s sleep friendly because you can just tie a scarf and go the next day.

Roll, Tuck, and Pin

I’m always trying to find shortcuts for my hair, and this look was the quickest and easiest one I’ve ever accomplished. The best thing about roll, tuck, and pins is that they can go a million different ways; just be sure to roll tightly so you won’t get any stray hairs that need to be smoothed down.

Celie/Crown/Goddess Twists

If you have more than 5 minutes to pull a look together, you can probably manage to do these simple celie/crown/flat twists that are one of my favorite go to styles. Theoretically, you only need 1 bobby pin for each side, but more are optional to flatten any puffiness.

Half Flat Twist Updo

Instead of doing the crown twists all the way around, just do them on the sides and pin both sides together in the back. Perfect for days when you don’t want bangs or hair in your face.

What are your quick and easy go to styles that get your hair up and out of the way in a pinch with limited tools?
