Introduce yourself!
C: Hiiii! My name is Carmen, I go by Carmen Alexandra. I’m originally from Detroit, MI, but I’m currently a stylist in Los Angeles, CA living a very sporadic entrepreneurial lifestyle.
What is your style philosophy?
C: My style philosophy is wear what makes you happy. In the world you are judged by your appearance before people get to know you, so wear your personality on the outside.
How would you describe your sense of style?
C: My style is edgy, girly, and bold. I love great prints, but most of all cheap prices.
What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
C: My morning process is pretty laid back. I just go for how I’m feeling and/or where I’m going. I always like to look cute and have an outfit that can be dressed up or down in case I get called to work or an event.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
C: My three faves in my fall wardrobe have to be my black suede booties, my Versace inspired bomber, and a plain gray tee I have. I wear all of them a little too much lol.
What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
C: I’m a huge thrift store and sample sale girl. I have also been getting into second hand stores like Plato’s Closet and Crossroads. I don’t like brands or cliché stores that everyone shops at.
How long have you been natural?
C: I have been natural almost a year now! I’m never going back.
How and why did you transition into natural hair?
C: I always hated perms, and with my hair texture they made it way too flat so I had no volume. My transition was pretty easy, I just stopped getting perms and instead of doing the big chop I just cut off an inch or two every couple weeks.
What is your signature hairstyle?
C: My signature hairstyle is when my hair is all forward with my bangs curled into a little swirl.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
C: I use a lot of ORS Olive Oil products to keep my hair hydrated because the California weather is so dry. I either wear my hair all forward with my bangs down or curl it all in, kind of like Bruno Mars lol. I get my sides shaved every week and a half to two weeks. I haven’t been to a stylist to do the top in about a year. No one can really do my hair how I like it to be.
