Introduce yourself!
D: Hey guys! My name is Danielle K. Stewart affectionately known as Dani or DK. I’ve been blogging since 2010 about life, my style and fashion news (to some extent). The initial concept was to use the blog as a style journal but as I grew and it grew as well, I looked more to inspire viewers with my looks of 9-5 fashion, event specific and everywhere in between. So I welcome you to Dani-DK.

What is your style philosophy?
D: My main style philosophy is to keep it comfortable. The worst feeling is going out and worrying about something ridding up or rubbing you wrong. Make sure your look is all about you and not about trying to be something that you aren’t. All in all, my style philosophy is be an effortless expression of yourself!

How would you describe your sense of style?
D: My sense of style blends the comfort of my tomboy days combined with leathers, prints and patterns. Despite my 5’11″ height, I often find myself in high heels or wedge sneakers no matter the occasion.

What is your process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
D: I rarely leave the process for morning. I was always taught to press and set out my clothing from the night before. I no longer actually do the press and setting out but I do mentally figure it out before bed. Sometimes I’m inspired by brand campaigns to which I make a mental note to try to recreate the look later down the line. When I don’t make a mental note, I’m normally a mess and late for work. Not a good look!

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
D: 2 pairs of Christian Louboutin pumps (one classsic pair of black suede and another forever sparkling in glitter) that my fiancé bought me for Christmas.
A black Catherine Malandrino coat.
A vintage Bill Bass striped black and white matching pant and jacket.

What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
D: As of late, I’ve been shopping online for basics and repurposing what I have. Less about fast fashion, more about investing in pieces. For the basics I shop at ASOS, Zara, and Nasty Gal. For the invest pieces I consistently troll TheOutNet and FarFetch.

How long have you been natural?
D: I’ve been natural since July 2010

How and why did you transition into natural hair?
D: My transition began as a test to see how long I could go without a relaxer. I also like to color my hair and between the two, they didn’t mix well – major breakage. I had been relaxing my hair since I was 12 and had become a stranger to my natural texture/curl pattern. The challenge was simply to quit the relaxer and get back my healthy hair. To make a long story short…a year into the transition I asked my stylist (who didn’t speak fluent English) to show me at what length my natural hair was verse the relaxed hair. Her response; “ok”. Her action…snip snip. Lost in translation, I lost the length that I had and was left with a natural bob. I’ve been completely natural ever since.

What is your signature hairstyle?
D: Big, Wild and Curly.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
D: I would say that I don’t always take care of my hair the best that I should. A great deal of my length and texture is due to genetics but if I don’t deep condition it every couple of weeks, I notice my curls do not snap back as much and it lacks it’s natural moisture and luster. With each wash or co-wash, I seal with grape seed oil and As I Am leave-in conditioner. Each morning I spritz my hair with water no matter the season. Hydration is key!

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D: You can follow me on my lifestyle blog www.dani-dk.com and on instagram @msdanidk
