The White Stuff

Cara does everything well. Rihanna and Michelle R. certainly think so.

Growing up with a Cosmo-obsessed mom, you’d think I would’ve had an early introduction to beauty. But I grew up in a no-makeup household. Not a “wait till you’re 16″ situation. No makeup, whatsoever.

But we all know what happens when something’s put off limits. So yeah, I stole lipstick to wear on picture day in 5th grade. It was a pretty, pale pink shade which was darling at the time. For junior prom, I used the free make-up swatches from a magazine, and stalked my local Rite-Aid for the release of the Urban Decay tattoo collection. And when summer rolled around, I painted my nails white with white-out (oh, the blinding starkness!). I was way off trend — the early 90′s were about Revlon red, not opaque colors and certainly not white. Whatever, I was before my time. White can be the chicest, tan- enhancing, freshest neutral there is. At the moment, it’s chicer than ever — and I’m crushing hard on Butter London Nail Polish in Cotton Buds. It’s def an upgrade from my office supply beauty days!
