5 Fly Natural Hair Styles That Can Withstand Humid Weather

CaribBeauty

Your hair is looking fly, but once the humidity hits, forget about it. Does this sound familiar? If you’re looking for a natural hairstyle that can withstand humidity or just look fine in spite of the moisture in the air, then check out these five ideas:

1. Messy Bun for Shrinkage-Prone Hair

Some of us love super sleek buns, but for shrinkage-prone hair, humidity can do away with that “laid” look. So, why not work with your texture, rather than against it? In this video, Zoe demonstrates how to create a super easy and cute messy bun with just one elastic hair band and a few bobby pins.

2. Wash and Go Sans Gel

I can’t talk about anti-humidity styles without including the wash and go. This tutorial, by Beautiful Naturelle, is great because 1) it is simple, 2) does not require gel, and 3) includes a finger-combing technique that removes/reduces tangles while distributing your conditioner. (Though the video is in French, English translation is provided on the screen.)

3. Pinned Curled Plaits or Twists

Now, many protective styles are a great go-to for humid days, but if you’re wanting to spice it up, check out this beautiful one by AfricanExport. You can also add accessories, but they are certainly optional.

“It takes wearing my hair in plaits to another level where I feel I can make do, go out in public, go on a date, go to work … and let my face be in the forefront, my accessories speak …”  ~AfricanExport

4. Wet N’ Wavy Mini Twists

I can personally attest to wearing mini twists as a style for humid days (and even rainy days). Depending on how you do them, they just get better with moisture! I included this video by Koku because it showcases a few style options for wet mini twists.

5. Finger Coils on Kinky Hair

In this video, Jouelzy shows you how to create sleek, fresh finger coils on kinky natural hair.  The process does take some time, but it is super easy to do.  You’ll need some gel, a comb, and two-prong clips.  This style can withstand humidity and only gets better each day!
