Introduce yourself!
L:
My name is Lynne and I’m from Columbus, Ohio also known as Buckeye City.

Why did you make the decision to go natural?
L:
I transitioned unknowingly while getting sew-ins back to back and opting out of getting relaxers in between time. By the time I decided to stop wearing sew-ins I was basically natural, aside from the 3-5 inches of relaxed hair throughout my head. I went in the bathroom one day and just started snipping away at those ends, best hair decision ever!! I cut the remainder of the relaxer out on April 19th, 2012, so it’s coming up on 2 years. Whoot whoot!

How would you describe your texture?
L:
I have multiple hair textures throughout my hair like many other naturals. 3c in the front, 4a on the sides, and 3b in the very back.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
L:
I used to style my hair daily! Yes, DAILY! It was taking a toll on my time and my hair, so I started styling weekly. Perm rod sets (pink colored rods) are my best friends, and they last all week using Motions Foaming Wrap Lotion. Now I’m rocking faux marley locs, and after these I’ll be trying marley twists. I’m trying to protective style more, as I’ve noticed it’s really helping out the overall health of my tresses.

What does wash day look like for you?
L:
I co-wash my hair once a week and style for the remaining week. I keep it simple with products. I realized less is more when it comes to my hair. I co-wash with Aussie Moist Conditioner, rinse with olive oil and use Curls Unleashed Leave-In Conditioner. When it’s time to deep condition, which is about bi-weekly, I use Aussie’s 3 Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. It’s AMAZING!! I shampoo my hair once a month, and I use Aussie Moist Shampoo. Basically, I love the whole Aussie line. I also make sure that I use JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) daily, on both my scalp and my eyebrows. I’m trying to thicken up both!

Describe your favorite go-to hairstyle for days when you don’t have a lot of time to style.
L:
My favorite go-to style when time is limited is a bun! I use Eco Styler Gel and my Denman brush.

How do you combat shrinkage?
L:
Banding my hair is how I combat shrinkage. I’ll do a wash and go at night using all the weekly products listed above, but on this occasion use Let’s Jam Custard after applying my leave in. I then section my hair off into about 4-5 sections and use about 3 scrunchies to band each section. This helps combat shrinkage and elongates my curls.

What are some of your problem areas (if any) that require special care and attention?
L:
Single strand knots! My hair is pretty kinky and curly at the same time and single strand knots love it there. Protective styling is the ultimate answer to the pesky knots.

What are 2 do’s for your texture?
L:
2 do’s for my hair would be deep conditioning and protective styling!

What are 2 don’ts for your texture?
L:
2 don’ts for my hair are heat (blow drying and flat ironing) and shampooing more than once a month.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
L:
Yes, 2curlsinapod on Instagram and 2curlsinapod.blogspot.com 🙂
