BGLH Style: Dominique in New York

dominique6-1

Introduce yourself!
D: Hi, my name is Dominique of www.StilettoEsq.com.  I am a San Diego native who fell in love with the east coast 13 years ago and haven’t left since!  After attending law school and residing in DC for almost 10 years, I am now a current resident of the concrete jungle, better known as NYC.

What is your style philosophy?
D: No matter what you wear, make sure you incorporate your own personality.  Clothes, shoes, accessories, should all make you look AND feel good.

How would you describe your sense of style?
D: I definitely incorporate a lot of classic elements to everything I wear. Although I may go trendy one day, there’s always a classic spin somewhere in my outfit, whether it’s a refined tote or an A-lined blazer, I always like to mix it up a bit. My friends all say my style is conservative, which makes me chuckle.

What is your process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
D: To be perfectly honest, it’s always a last minute decision. I have never been the type of lay out an outfit the night before or take a long time pondering on what will go together. I can usually decide what I want to wear and get dressed, no matter the occasion, in less than 20 minutes.

What are the three favorite things in your closet?
D: Ooooo, this is a hard one. I’d have to say my Givenchy Shark Tooth Booth (I stalked sites for these babies for months!), my gold Louis Vuitton Limelight Clutch, and every blazer in my closet (is this cheating??!!) J  I guess if I had to select one, I’d say the H&M Coral blazer I scored on sale last year for $20.

What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
D: Netaporter.com is a god send in the online shopping world – not only do they have the best and widest selection, I also DIE for how they style every single item (from handbags, to lingerie, to jewelry). I get a lot of inspiration from some of the looks they put together. I also love theoutnet.com which is curated similarly to netaporter but everything is at marked down prices (a win/win).

How long have you been natural?
D: My whole life.

How and why did you transition into natural hair?
D: Since I have never “transitioned” per se, I will say that I prefer my hair curly over straight because I feel like it goes hand-in-hand with my personality.  A bit quirky and unruly at times but certainly one of a kind.

What is your signature hairstyle?
D: Curls, curls, curls – down and wild. I also wear it back in a bun quite a bit for work.

Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
D: I must admit that I am fairly lucky in the hair department because there really is no set styling regimen I must adhere to.  I have, however, recently changed my regimen.  After a wash, instead of putting any gel, mousse, or oils in my hair, I simply use and leave in a few dollops of Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Moisture Renewal Conditioner (the regular kind, not a leave-in). I’ve noticed that my hair is much healthier and the curls more defined.

Is there a blog/webpage where we can find you?
D: You sure can!!! Please visit www.StilettoEsq.com where I post my daily outfits and a recipe (from time-to-time).  I look forward to seeing you there.
