Introduce yourself!
N: Hello, My name is Nasheeba. I currently live in Manchester, UK and I love it. I lived in Coventry before that. I study Fashion design at MMU. I love creating: photography, designing and modeling. Recently I represented J’adore Models Manchester. I love being inspired and inspiring others.
What is your style philosophy?
N: Wear what you feel, be bold. Bold is better than boring. Give people something different to look at.
How would you describe your sense of style?
N: Very me. From young I’ve always been the one whose personal style didn’t fit in with most. I loved it and I stuck with it… but it just came naturally anyway.
COLOUR & PRINTS! Match made in heaven on my ideal garment, or either separately.
Vintage. I love vintage and will always wear something vintage/thrifted. Trying to sustain the earth supports this love.
An androgynous style seeps through everything I wear no matter how girly I try to look. So there will always be an edge to my outfit.
Modesty. I don’t know if it’s because I have no major curves that I don’t own low cut or freakum dresses, or the way I’ve been brought up. It doesn’t really appeal to me. I prefer cool outfits than sexy ones.
Casual. I can look pretty casual for certain things. Most things aren’t that serious to me so being casual, but cool is okay.
What is the process of deciding what to wear in the morning?
N: Usually when I have to dress to go someplace that I have to look stylish the outcome can be a joke. I usually look/feel best when I don’t have to think too much about it. So I just walk up to my wardrobe and pick whatever. But there are days I’ll be close to tears of frustration when a lot of time is passing and I still haven’t decided what to wear.
What are the three favorite things in your closet?
N: Black combat boots. I wear these everywhere! I love them, they are comfy and will always determine my final look. It’s what adds the edge to my outfits.
My printed suit (blazer and shorts). This outfit is always helpful when I’m trying to look stylish, but professional.
My vintage blue suede jacket/coat. I like it, very casual and oversized, but different.
What are some of your favorite shops/websites for clothes, shoes and accessories?
N: E-bay, Asos Marketplace, Urban Outfitters, charity shops rather than overpriced vintage stores. River Island… more high street but not too tough. I honestly don’t even like shopping, I just bump into cool things and I’m sorted.
How long have you been natural?
N: 2 years and 4 months.
How and why did you transition into natural hair?
N: My relaxed hair was frustrating for a while. It was all different lengths and damaged. One day I looked in the mirror, grabbed a pair of scissors, cut it all off, and left the short growth I had. It took a really long time to even like it. I only felt comfortable when I dyed it blonde. I thought about giving up and relaxing it so many times, but I didn’t and I’m happy I didn’t. I wanted curly hair for so long and there was no way unless I started again. At least I could have curls!
What is your signature hairstyle?
N: My fro out or pulled back.
Describe your styling regimen over the course of the month.
N: I wash my hair maybe once a fortnight using any shampoo, Mizani Supreme Oil Conditioner and sometimes an argan oil hair mask. I moisturize it every day or every other day with coconut oil, unrefined shea butter, shea oil and a shea butter moisturizing detangling lotion. I style my hair quite frequently depending on how much effort I’m willing to put in. When I cannot be bothered I will wear it in an afro, pulled back, in braids, anything I like. I like a blowout afro better, but I’m trying to stay away from heat. I’m still not content with my regimen. It’s forever changing.
