What’s That Fragance…Margiela?

Margiela masks on the Yeezus Tour. We’ll never understand this.

I am way too serious about perfumes. I loooove them. Desperately and forever. So clearly, I had to try the new Maison Martin Margiela Replica Collection, which includes six fragrances that recreate specific, nostalgic moments, like Lazy Sunday Morning, or Flower Market (sadly, Yeezus Tour Collabo was not among the moments the designer chose). My sweet tooth quickly honed in on Jazz Club, with its notes of tobacco leaf, resins, and vanilla.

My instant crush on the scent was weird, since I definitely don’t have positive associations with jazz. On the first day of eleventh grade, my BFF dumped me. As I openly sobbed through our Creative Writing class, she explained to me that we just didn’t have enough in common. “I mean, I like jazz, and you like shopping.” I’ve had a totally unreasonable aversion to jazz ever since. (My views on shopping remain unchanged. SORRY NOT SORRY.)

My high school trauma has kept me out of jazz clubs so far — but if they really smell like this warm, sweet perfume, I might have to rethink things. Jazz Club roars to life with a blast of pepper and a boozy rum note, but vanilla quickly surfaces to smooth and sweeten things. It’s sort of Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb-y (if you’re a perfume girl, please drop everything and purchase). Jazz Club is the only scent in the Replica collection that Margiela labels “male”, but it’s equally smoldering — if not more so — on ladies.

Jazz Club, along with the rest of the Replica collection, is currently exclusive to Sephora and is priced at $125 for 100 ml.
