God, if I had a nickel for how many times I’ve titled a beauty peice “Prime Time” in my career, smh. But that’s neither here nor there. My baby sister Lauren, who you may know from The Root and now Mother Jones, just introduced me to a primer/CC cream that was like a small epiphany. You’re going to hate me for this, but I’m not a huge fan of CC creams. As Carrie B. once said about squirrels vs. rats, I feel like a CC creams is just tinted moisturizer in a cuter outfit. It’s marketing, come on! But Tarte’s Colored Clay CC Primer is something else, altogether. It comes in only five shades, but they’re so sheer and blendable, that you’ll find one that enhances your skin beautifully (with my new sunkissed, Jamaican skintone, I wear tan). Made with color-correcting Amazonian clay, these POWERFUL little sticks instantly even out your skin tone and erase weird spots, redness or discoloration. The finish is astonishing. Some folks wear it under foundation, but I don’t think you need it. The Tarte leaves your skin so matte, so polished – so velvety-smooth — that Laur (and now me) just wears it alone. In general, one swipe of this stick gets your face together in a flawless way.
